Today we got up and grandpa and Lane went and picked up some doughnuts at Amon's Sugar Shack. This place has a big sign on it that says it has been mentioned in Southern Living magazine. They were ok, but they are not even close to Shuler's, our favorite doughnut.
After we ate grandpa went to play golf. While he was playing golf we went to the swimming pool with grandma and Angie. (Justin had to go to a funeral).
We all had fun. Grandpa said he shot a 91 but we don't believe him. Leah got in a little trouble at the swimming pool for doing flips off the diving board.
After everyone cleaned up we went to get Pizza at Donato's. It was very good. Then we all headed out to the Pulaski County Fair. Grandma and Grandpa are used to big county fairs with lots of barns, and contests, and animals, and livestock.
This fair had about 6 tables as you walked in with vegetables, breads, and jellies that has been judged. Surely there would be more inside. Not so fast. There were no barns, no livestock, no other judging contests.
All there were was some rides (with really long lines), some food wagons (with all of the fair favorites), and lots of carnival games. When we first went in we tried to win a goldfish. Lane got his ping pong ball in the fish bowl and won. Later we tried to knock down the tigers with baseballs. You had to knock down three with three balls. Guess what? Leah won. She picked out a beautiful stuffed tiger. Later Lane rang the bell at the strongman's booth and won a squirt gun. And then he tried to shot down some cans with and air gun. Again, he won and let Leah pick out an animal. She picked a penguin.
Two notes from the fair: 1) Every hillbilly in KY came out of the mountains to go to the fair. Wow! we saw lots of body parts, lots of tattoos, and very few teeth. 2) Justin hasn't been to very many fairs. He was really amazed at the clientele. We got him to ride the Ferris Wheel and he decided to be, well, to be Justin. He clapped with joy, then pretended to be passed out. Of course, other people were entertained and he fit right in.
Before leaving we got some good fair food: a corn dog for Justin, a funnel cake for Angie and us, and a candy apple for grandpa. On the way home grandpa stopped at Walmart to buy some fish food. We named the fish Nemo, the Tiger White Sox, and the penguin, Nimrod.
